Grandma and the kids went to Pump it Up and out to eat while we were away -- I wonder why they didn't miss us????As for us, we decided to just sleep and sleep today. So, we were sleeping with no need to wake... imagine, silent, rocking, silent, rocking, suddenly, our toilet was possessed! It sounded like the loudest vacuum you've ever heard plus some. We both jumped out of bed, in that parental jump-out-of-bed-to-solve-the-problem stance. We couldn't stop the toilet noise, but we did close the bathroom door. We tried turning on the lights and realized the power was out. Power outages on a boat are not what I would call a good thing. In fact, I watch way too much of the Deadliest Catch and know that power outages mean that the boat is in serious trouble.
We hurried and put on our clothes to go and see what was happening. We were on the same deck as the customer service desk, so we headed that way. The man at the desk was saying, "It was just a test, there is no need for concern." I'm smarter than to believe it was just a test. You don't wake people up with demon toilets for a test in the early morning. Duh. Eventually the power came back on, our toilet stopped screaming, and we were finally told the truth -- a pipe on the coolant system had burst and they had to turn the power off to fix it. Again -- that happened on the Deadliest Catch. They were OK, so I figured out we would be OK too.
We closed up our windows and went back to sleep. We woke up at 11:45 when the steward, Jules, tried to come in to clean our room. We decided to get up and go eat. We had the best salads in the dining room. They had a salad bar that was amazing -- about 35 gourmet items like shrimp, eggplant, and tortilla bowls. The waiter put together what you asked for, added the dressing, tossed it, sliced it and put it in a large bowl. It was so good!
Jared wanted to go rock climbing again. Turns out they were having a fastest climber contest for the adults. He climbed once, then they started the contest. There were about 5 guys that entered. Jared was obviously one of the fastest. At the end, we were hoping he would win. They announced third then second place. "Second place goes to Jared," the man announced. A large African-American jumped up and his entire family started cheering. I didn't think the guy had won, so I shouted out, "Which Jared?" after a couple of times, the leader heard me. He says, "Jared Patch." Jared Patch didn't know quite what to do. The other guy just deflated. Then he was really cute about it. He gave Jared the prizes and congratulated him. Then he took Jared's picture to 'remember the guy who beat him.' You can see him in the white t-shirt and plaid shorts standing behind Jared.
In the late afternoon we got a couple of souvenirs for the kids and headed off to dinner. The last night it was risotto, caprese salad, garlic shrimp and warm chocolate cake. We went back to the room and Jared watched Scooby-Doo with Batman for a while. We went walking on deck during a pretty good wind. It was fun to do the standing at an angle, getting our hair whipped around and watching the lightening at the same time.
We saw the show 'You Can't Stop the Beat' -- much better than the first musical show. Around 10:00 PM we packed and put our suitcases in the hall. We went to see the late night comedy show, but it was pretty bad so walked out. We went walking on deck for a while to purge our minds. Then we went back to the room and watched "Mall Cop" until about 2:30 AM. Then we finally went to sleep.
